Homemade Butter

When we got home from the maize, we made butter. We have never made real butter before, and it was so much fun! We had a jar with cream about half full and we shook it. We shook and shook and shook, and about 15 min later we took off the lid. It was getting thicker, but it wasn't butter yet, so we shook it some more. Finally, daddy took it and shook it really hard for about 30 seconds. We opened the jar and there was a lump of butter and a bunch of buttermilk. It was a lot of work! We ate some for dinner, and it was good. I think we will continue to make our own butter, but I think next time we will try putting it in the mixer.

We went to the Maize with our homeschool group, HERO, yesterday, and we had so much fun! It was a perfect day to be out and about, and I even got a little sunburn. We got there around 11am and left about 3:30. We had the whole place to ourselves, so the kids just ran and ran and ran. They wore themselves out. Paige met a new friend, Devin got to see one of his new friends, and Brooke got along with everyone. We had a fire pit, so we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. It was so much fun! I think we made some wonderful memories as well as some new friends.

I have been wanting to make word are with scriptures for years. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Ahoy Matey!

Check out all the swashbuckling pirates and prissy princesses. Brooke had a lot of fun at her birthday party. She especially enjoyed seeing James, her best friend from school. She has told us several times that she is going to marry him! Anyway, the boys enjoyed rough housing as pirates, and the girls primped and played dress up as princesses. Tons of fun for a 4 year old!!! My baby is growing up.

Ketchup day update

The day was a huge success! The children loved the idea of eating and playing with ketchup. We watched a video with a guy painting a picture with ketchup and french fries. The children finger painted with ketchup and mustard...they drew tornadoes. We made homemade ketchup, but we didn't like it. I will have to modify the recipe to make it taste good. Overall, it was a ton of fun!

Ketchup day

Today is Ketchup day. We were on fall break last week because Jake had to take vacation or lose it. We have a few things that we should catch up before we start our new school week, so we made catch-up-day which translates into ketchup day. We get to catch up on our work and have something with ketchup for lunch. Today, we are having hot dogs, french fries, and fruit. The kids are really excited about catching up on their work, too! Ketchup day...who knew it only took a little ketchup to make work fun!?!

Baking soda

As many of you may know, I use baking soda for just about everything. I clean, cook, and soak with it. Recently, I heard about using it as a face wash and, loving baking soda and natural products, decided to use it. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now, and I'm not sure what I think about it yet. I love the way it dissolves dirt and exfoliates, but it has also been pulling all impurities to the surface. So, of course, my face has been broke out for a couple weeks. I am going to stick to it, though, and see what the results are after a few weeks. I did some research on the Internet, and discovered that a lot of people swear by it. Tonight, I decided to make a mask consisting of baking soda, tea tree oil, and thyme oil. So far so good. So if you see me with beautiful, glowing skin in a few weeks, you will know my secret. Until then, you may think I'm crazy (like you didn't already think that!)

Mommy's Makeup

This was taken last year when Brooke got into my makeup. She thought she was so beautiful with all that lipstick and powder. If I remember correct, the lipstick and powder were all over the bathroom as well.

Hip Hop

Devin and Paige had their first Hip Hop class Monday with their cousins. They had a ton of fun. They learned the first part of a dance routine...and it moves fast! The teacher was AWESOME!!!! She had some time at the end of class to teach break dancing, and that was fun as well. I wish I could take this class! Part of what I like is this is classic hip hop. It is not the junk you see on TV, and the music she uses is mostly Christian because she doesn't want to use anything negative in her dancing. I love that the kids have this opportunity to learn quality hip hop and have so much fun at the same time. At the end of class they gathered in a circle to freestyle and show off their moves. We were all surprised when Paige performed a perfect head spin. Way to go, Paige!!!!

Updates

I have found that I am not that good at updating my blog. I would like to post ever other day or so, but I never seem to do it. I tried to update this a little so you can know what we have been up to, but I still haven't gotten everything on here. I will post more on our study about American Indians. We have some wonderful artwork and projects I would like to share with you all. I hope you enjoy my page. I will try to post more soon.

Pumpkin patch

Today we went to the pumpkin patch with our homeschool group HERO. We had so much fun! It was a beautiful day, and Jake even got to go! What a treat. The kids played on the pumpkins, traversed the maze, fed the animals, took a hayride, and picked out a pumpkin. We had a great time spending the day together. I wish we could all do this more often!

Ballet

Brooke's first day of Ballet was Monday, and she did awesome! The class has been in session for two months already, but Brooke fit right in and did everything just like a little ballerina. Of course her momma is proud. The teacher did a wonderful job, and I am very impressed with this class.

Funtastic Island

Monday, October 6, was the kids first dance lesson, but the teacher was sick and class was canceled. Instead of class, we went to Aunt Jennifer's house and we had a great time. We went to a park by their house called Funtastic Island, and it WAS Funtastic! I think this is the best park in the Tulsa area. We had so much fun playing with the kids....I love to swing!

Nature walk

Last year, we took the cousins on a nature walk and took pictures. It was so much fun! I finally made a page about it.

Scrapbooking

I never get time to scrapbook, and most of my pics are on the computer. I never even think of getting them printed, so I guess digital scrapbooking is perfect for me. I have been making the backgrounds for my blog, and now I am starting my digital scrapbook. I love it. It is so much fun, and I can finish a page in about a quarter of the time it takes me to traditional scrapbook. I think this is so much fun!!!! Periodically, I will show pages I have completed. The page I am showing today was made from a kit by bits 2 kits that was used for a scrapbook challenge. In the challenge, the page could only be made with the paper and elements provided in this kit. I was to late to enter the challenge, but I thought it would be fun anyway. Here is what I came up with.
